Unexpected Ode

Ode to Poverty's Child
Ode to poverty's child
Who goes hungry everyday
Who wears no coat or shoes
running down the alleyway

Ode to the little ones
Who have no heat or lights
or piece of bread to eat

Ode to the child who is taught
To stand on a corner and sell
Who only knows addiction,
Sirens and hell

Ode to the many who have
No Joy
of finding Easter eggs or
a brand new toy

Raise up the child from Poverty's
Nest to shine and create
at his or her very best

Let the child become who
He and she are meant to be
A poet, writer, dancer or
whatever their hearts dream

Litany Imitation

You are the calm and
The storm

You are the apple
And the cup

However, you are not snow on branches
Or mold on Cheese

And you are certainly not mist from the waterfall
There is no way you are the mist from the waterfall

It is possible that you are the Sea
Maybe even the breeze

But you are not even close to being Sunny on the beach

And a quick look in the mirror will show that you are neither Knight
Nor Ladainian

It might interest you to know speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world
That I am the lightning in the storm cloud

I also happen to be the Hiker
And the trail

I am also the Moss
And the Ponderosa pine

But don’t worry, I’m not the Smith Tower
And the Space Needle

You are still the Smith Tower
And the Space Needle

You will always be the Calm
And the storm

Not to mention the Apple

And somehow the Cup

First Blog

Hi, my name is Dawn Otto.  I am going to school to earn a bachelor's degree in the Medical Assistant program.  I enjoy the outdoors.  I like to hike, run, walk with my dogs and spend time with my family.  I am married with 3 sons who have kids of their own. I am a grandma. I was adopted as a baby and just last April found my birth parents.  My husband and I visited them in June (on my birthday).  I was able to spend time with them on Christmas too.  They live in San Bruno, CA. Meeting my biological relatives has been one of the best times in my whole life. I have brothers, a niece, nephews, cousins. I love them all. I am looking forward to this semester because it will be one of the most challenging.

Dawn.
